Just before the beginning of another school year late this summer I went into Sofia’s room and without telling her I thought to myself this girl needs a little revamp in this room:) It was time. She moved into her current room when she was in 7th grade and of course her style has changed just a little since we first built our house. I wanted her to go into her junior year with something that would give her a little extra motivation especially at night when she is up late studying or writing an essay. Something about planting your feet down on a rug right when you get up gives you that extra pep in your step that you need. What I love about decorating interiors is the feeling you get when a room finally feels finished. When we first moved in I remember we were indecisive on getting a rug for her room because we didn’t think she needed one and I am so happy we waited because the way everything turned out in her room seems like it was meant to be now!

Sofia loves the color green and has so many books in her room that needed somewhere to be displayed. She has a pretty neutral pallet in her room with all the white funiture and off white headboard. (Girl after my own heart). What I really like about having a neutral base to work off of in a room is that is makes adding in color SO much easier because they don’t compete with each other. The first thing I did was create a design board of some of the existing pieces she already has in her room so I could make sure everything would flow well and look nice with her furniture and wall color which is a fun blue color. This is the same process I always do when I work with any of my interior design clients as well.

This was Sofia’s room before I added a few things for her to give you a point of reference.

Storage Bench|Area Rug|Circular Faux White Rug|Bookshelf|Basket|Mirror|Light green throw pillow|String Lights|

After I narrowed down a few rugs and bookshelf wall mount options that I thought fit her taste I showed her the options. Keep in mind we did this little room revamp for under $250.00 which was what the goal was. Below is the design board that I created for her room and the links to some of the things she has in her room and loves. I think often times when people think about changing up a space or making the look and feel of a room look really different they imagine that it would have to cost a significant amount. I bought a pillow, rug, and bookshelf for Sofia for a little over $200.00. Adding a simple element to a room such as a rug, new light, paint color, or a new piece of art really enhances the look and feel of the room and you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to make minor tweaks and changes.

Sofia absolutely LOVES the way her room came out and so do I. It is amazing how well this rug ties everything in with the room. It pulls the color from the current wall color as well as incorporates her favorite color, green. I also love these candid shots of both of them together. She is such a patient sister who lets her crazy 1 year old brother come in and explore her room whenever he wants.

French doors for Sofia’s playroom/teen hangout space

This room in our house is a such a fun space for Sofia because it is her area to hang out with her friends and watch her favorite Netflix series while still having her own place to hangout. I would love to add additional privacy to this room to not only give her more space but also to keep the sound contained within. I have noticed when we watch TV in the other living room the sound does travel. My favorite place to grab inspiration is Pinterest. Here are some Pinterest images in which I drew my inspiration from. These doors are such an easy way to add more character to a room while also allowing the privacy and sound proof barrier I am looking for. Hoping we can tackle this project this winter. Gotta get to measuring and figuring out where to order them from. So stay tuned!

Third floor walk up attic

We have a pretty good size third floor walk up in our house and it has been a space we have been so excited to complete but know going into it that it will be a large investment so this will be an ongoing project for sure. We don’t plan on finishing this in a few months. Our mindset was that with all of the uncertainty going on in the world we are just trying to think of what can do that will keep us busy around our house for the foreseeable future. Sofy can even join in and help too. These days we are just trying to get as creative as we can with indoor activities.

Every time we all go up to the third floor we start brainstorming what we could do. I love that the possibilities will be endless. How cool would it be to do a movie theater room with built in bunk beds in one part of the space? Or create some built in window seats and a specific area for just my office? My goal here is that I want to keep the space very bright because their is only one window on that floor. I am envisioning doing the walls and the ceiling in a white shiplap. This has been something I have wanted to do forever! Here are some pictures in which I drew inspiration from:

As always I will keep you updated via my Instagram stories and take you through my planning process. I begin with a design board because let’s be real you can’t be successful with a design unless you have one:)

xx Jordan
