Making your own bedroom feel festive for Christmas as an adult is so fun-where have I been? I had so much fun doing this this year and this will absolutely be something I make sure to do year after year. Here are some of my favorite ways to elevate bedding in any bedroom. Adding a down comforter creates such a fluffy, comfortable look that elevates the bed right away. Another thing I like to do is add a lumbar pillow to tie everything together.

Here are some of the staples I like to have in our bedroom and what everything looked like pulled together.

Decorating kids rooms is my absolute favorite thing to do and whenever Christmas rolls around I love to make it memorable. I think it is a combination of tapping into their interests and leaning into the whimsical magic of an upcoming holiday that makes it all so special. The bonus of decorating a child’s room with them is that they absolutely love being apart of the fun:) I have collected a few things over the years for my son’s room & I wanted to share with all of you some of my favorite finds. I love adding twinkle lights this time of year above his bed and then pairing a winter quilt that can last through the holidays.

Easter is one of those holidays that we are rarely at our house to host. We are usually at another family members house so I don’t often ever have to actually have a sit down Easter dinner. However I still think it is such a fun holiday to decorate for because you can incorporate fun, cheerful pastel colors into your whole color scheme. I also feel like it is such a great holiday to get creative with. From decorating eggs, to having different bunnies throughout, to the fun centerpieces you can choose the possibilities feel endless.

DECORATING for any holiday though does not have to be stressful or overwhelming so I have come up with a few ways below to really enhance your Easter table without all the frills and expense:) Before I get into what I did to decorate this Easterscape table for you I want to break down some basics that you should have on hand when you host any sort of dinner party.

10 Tips for a successful dinner party:

  1. Serving Dishes (any that you prefer this doesn’t mean you always have to have a fancy china set, any fishes you prefer will work)
  2. Linen napkins
  3. Napkin rings
  4. Centerpiece (for this you can either use candles, candlesticks, or depending on the holiday you can curate one that goes with the holiday you are celebrating
  5. Good music
  6. Wine glasses
  7. Drinkware
  8. Place cards
  9. Silverware
  10. Serving dishes

Here are some photos of the two different Easterscape ideas that I came up with using what we had on hand. The only additional item that I purchased was the spring table cloth because I think adding a tablecloth to any table for a holiday really just pulls the whole setting together,

I love the way the Easterscape came out! The only thing that is not pictured is the drinkware but otherwise everything shown but the tablecloth we had. I felt like I needed something to really I absolutely love the handblock print of it and it absolutely inspired me to create our Easter themed table. The blue and white china is from Pottery barn years ago and we got this for our wedding. The carrots are from an Easter garland years ago that i just cut off so they could be individual carrots and I then set them on each place setting. The glass colored eggs that I put on each place setting are from the Target dollar section. These are a few examples of not having to spend to much to really bring your table together. I also feel like with specific holidays that you are decorating for less really is more.

The centerpiece shown in the pictures is something that I already had on our mantle in the living room and I just added the gold bunnies on top of it mixed in with faux moss. I think it turned out so fun but you could also just get a few beautiful bouquets of tulips or any flower of your choice and the centerpiece would look just as beautiful:)

Here is some Easterscape inspiration for you if you are hosting and are in need of some inspiration.

I am here to tell you stop stressing about keeping flowers alive because it just isn’t worth it. Now if you have a green thumb go for it and don’t worry about purchasing faux flowers. I can keep flowers alive inside our home no problem but when it comes to our flower boxes and all of the different planters I have around our house it just isn’t feasible in this season of my life. Anyway I have been using fake flowers in every way possible around the outside of our home and I honestly I love it. Another thing to think about with faux flowers is that you will only have to buy them once and not year after year so to me you are saving money.

I feel like especially for us because we have quite a few flower boxes the only way to really keep them thriving and not die quickly is to install a drip system. Anyway here are some of the flowers I just put in our window boxes and I cannot get over HOW REAL they look again NO ONE has to know that they are fake, and what I loveee so much about the faux flowers is that they always look alive, beautiful, and healthy.

Over February vacation this year I had Andy embark on quite the project. We had this wall in our living room that is absolutely perfect for something like this. It’s funny it definitely takes a while to truly live in a home to see what you could do or what changes are potentially able to be made. One day last fall I was looking in our living room and I was like “wow’ this wall really has potential to have an entire bookshelf on it. We also have soooo many books and by we I mean Andy so we were running out of places to put all of them. So I knew this would be such a practical addition.

If you look into having a professional come and possibly install and make a bookshelf similar to this from family members I know that have done something similar you are looking at upwards of $5k + depending on the size and complexity of how you would like it to look. With that in mind we knew to keep the cost down making one on our own would be the best option. I had seen so many people on Instagram do the Billy Bookcase hack from IKEA and I honestly could not believe all of the different variations and options that could be done.

Below are photos of what the wall looked like before the bookshelf was installed.

This is a video of what the wall looked like before Andy added the Ikea bookcases. The gallery wall was great however I just always felt over the years that it was missing something. It lacked a wow factor and something that really tied the room together. By adding these bookshelves I really feel like this room is totally complete now.

Okay so how did we do it? Here is a breakdown of the different steps we took in order to build it from start to finish. The first thing Andy did was build all of the IKEA Billy Bookcases. We got four of them. Here are the exact ones I ordered. As I mentioned I got four of these Billy Bookcases. Here is the link for you to reference. They were $69.00 each.

Then, I saw a lot of different posts on Instagram of people adding doors to the bookcases as well. I thought that was a great idea for storage and additional items such as seasonal decor and toys to hide away. So I ordered these Oxberg doors and they were $25 each. I got four of them in total to put on two out of the four bookcases. I love the way they turned out.

Here is a breakdown of everything Andy bought from Home Depot along with photos of everything that he purchased for the bookshelf.

IKEA Bookcase & Door’s Total Cost: $428.50 (This includes tax and the delivery fee)

Hardware for the doors: $112 Rejuvenation Hardware (I had to buy four so we had one for each door)

Home Depot Purchases: $230.40 All of the items that Andy purchased for this bookshelf I have pictures of and quantities of above. Keep in mind though we do have Home Depot ProX which allows you to get discounts on all products.

Lighting: $37.39 each x4 =$149.56 (They often have sales on these and they are marked down significantly. Remember these are battery operated and do not need to be hardwired.

Plugs for the lighting: $38.99 this is the lighting kit we used to get the lighting we ordered installed and they work really well.

Decorative items for shelves: $260.93 I included a whole bunch of different items I think would look great on a bookshelf if you are in need of some inspiration. Keep in mind a lot of the items that I got for the bookshelf I did already have to style it so the only really new pieces I incorporated were the white vases from Target and the woven baskets.

Wood Bowl|Rim Vase|7″ Vase|Scalloped Candle|Monstera Plant|Storage Basket|LED Picture Light|Scallop Frame|Vintage Sailboat Photo|Seagrass Basket|Ceramic Lamp|

Caulking: $3.98 each Acrylic Latex Caulk

Paint: $75 a gallon of this with a primer (We told the guy at Sherman Williams we were painting a bookshelf and he made a concoction for us that went on so well. Chantilly Lace OC

TOTAL COST: $1,299.36

Next week for part 2 I will get into the nitty gritty of how Andy built it and some of the tips and tricks he advises.

Some of my favorite ways to enhance any space in your home https://www.athomewithjordan.com/some-of-my-favorite-ways-to-enhance-any-space-in-your-home/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=some-of-my-favorite-ways-to-enhance-any-space-in-your-home Wed, 26 Mar 2025 18:52:05 +0000 https://www.athomewithjordan.com/?p=4092

I wanted to share some ways that I LOVEEEE to add character and life into any space in our home. Here they are! All of the below items are very easy to incorporate into your home and they are not too costly. For example if you are looking to add overhead sconce lighting to your home you do not have to hire an electrician to do so. Many are battery operated now and can also be plugged in instead of being hardwired. I have also included links to everything below that I think you may like and can easily incorporate into your home:) Enjoy!

Mirrors: I love adding different types of mirrors around our home. Mirrors are very beneficial in a space because they reflect a lot of beautiful light, make any room feel larger, brighter and more open. Additionally, they reflect light and add some warmth to your home.

Cutting Boards: Gosh my heart explodes with excitement when I add cutting boards to our kitchen or bathroom spaces in our home. They elevate any countertop space with the warm wood tones they all have as well as the warmth and practicality they offer. You can use them to place your frequently used cooking items as well as hand soaps in a bathroom.

Lighting: The great thing about using lighting in your home is that you do not necessarily have to have lighting hardwired in order for it to be incorporated into your home. The lighting that we have on our bookshelves are not hardwired so it is something you can look into.

Gallery Walls: These allow you to curate a collection of meaningful pieces in one area of your home. The photos can range from family photos, travel mementos, or artwork that speaks to you. This then will continue to create a space that reflects your personality and tells a story.

Plants: Bringing the outdoors in is never a bad idea when adding either real or faux plants to your home. I love the way real greens from plants add such a visually esthetic enhancement to your space. If you don’t want real plants faux plant are also a great alternative.

Window Treatments: Pulling together window treatments on your window really enhances the look and feel and it is very easy to do so without breaking the bank. I personally love bamboo shades paired with a sheer or linen curtain. Bamboo shades are a good choice for window coverings due to their natural beauty and durability.
