Happy FRIDAY!
I have been anxiously waiting to post this for about three months now. It really has been KILLING me that I haven’t shared every step of the way with you all, but don’t worry all the fun has just begun! We are in the process of building a new home:) If you have stuck with me on Instagram this far I REALLY love and appreciate every single one of you. I will be honest my content has NOT been anywhere near what it was last year at this time but with half of our current house in storage it has been hard to keep creativity flowing within our space. When you put your house up for sale in the city realtors want it to look larger by taking out the bigger furniture pieces you have around the house. Sounds great when they tell you initially but it really is a HUGE pain in the you know what. It ended up paying off, but it has been quite a few busy months for us if you can image.
Why are you moving? I know you are all probably like WHAT? You are moving? WHY?! Well the truth is after all of the blood, sweat and tears (literally) that we have put into our home it is time to move on and grow together as a family into a larger house. When Andy and I bought this house a little over three years ago we lucked out and purchased when the market in Boston was no where near as high as it is today. Sofia at the time didn’t live with us permanently but was moving in with us that following summer so we wanted her to begin her adjustment to moving to Boston at a good school in a nice neighborhood near our house. Also, the location we picked worked good for our jobs which were closer to the city at the time so it made sense. Fast forward to now both of our jobs have changed and we don’t need to be located in the city anymore. Andy’s commute is getting to be even longer for him each day so that isn’t fun for him. Most importantly Sofia is going into middle school next year so she would be entering a new school anyway. In the city once you hit seventh grade you either go to a public school, or you go into a private school so she didn’t get too upset about the change. She is so resilient and has moved so much in her life already that this is a piece of cake for her. Around Christmas the conversation began between Andy and I about moving. Eventually, when our family does grow we knew that staying in our current house would be difficult in terms of space, and practicality for all of us. We have already put so much work into our current home and we knew that if we wanted to stay we would be really only be adding another room downstairs, but we did the math and knew that we would have to add a few more bedrooms to make it work for everyone and it really didn’t seem worth it to us in the long run. SO our house hunt began.
Why I waited to tell you all: Their really was no particular reasoning other than the fact that moving can be very stressful, lots of moving parts are going on all at once (no pun intended) and to be honest I didn’t want to jinx us (I know that sounds crazy, but I wanted to keep all of the positive vibes out in the universe as much as possible so everything ended up working out for us the way we wanted). Their is nothing worse that looking for your dream home, getting your hopes up and something falling through. I know any of you who have dealt with putting your house on the market and then purchase a new one after know what I am talking about. So far we have had very good luck and everything has worked out very well for us. We sold our house in less than a month and we are very happy with who the new homeowners are. They are a very cute younger family who have told us how excited they are to make our house their forever home. They wrote us the sweetest letter with their offer that actually made me tear up. I am totally going to keep it.
Where to? We are staying in Massachusetts which is great because we really do love living here. We are just moving outside of the city which trust me was very bittersweet for me when we began looking. Then I realized as you get older all of the decisions you make are no longer just for you. They are for your husband and kids + pets:) We landed on a town 30 mins outside the city and we are very happy with it. What attracted us to the town initially was all of the new construction that is being built their currently. The one thing I wanted to make sure was still a possibility on my wish list when we moved was to still be able to walk to get coffee and grab a bite to eat somewhere. I am so happy that our new town offers just that. They have the cutest little deli, dry cleaners and coffee shop right up the road from our house. The schools are great, the town charm is adorable, and everyone that we have run into so far has been so sweet. Moving is always nerve racking but I plan on getting involved in different things at Sofia’s new school so we can meet other couples, and set up play dates!
Next Steps: When we bought our new house the physical structure of it was already built, and the outside just had the siding and the shutters in place. It is a colonial. The inside layout is what we really fell in love with because it is a blank canvas with just the studs in place to identify what room was what. As you know this part was heaven to me so Pinterest became my best friend all over again. This was a huge selling point to Andy and I because we knew if we wanted to build a house we wanted it to be the way we had always envisioned our space to be. It has a huge great room and then a smaller family room which will most likely be a kids playroom. One of my favorite parts of this house is the third floor walk up attic. I cannot even begin to explain the potential of this space:) I included some photos below for you to see the space before hand. I think it will be really cool for you all to see the before and after transformation.
This is the first of many posts about the new house. Tonight we picked our Sherman Williams room colors, but have three rooms left to pick. Do you know how many darn gray color shades their are?!!!! hahah. We are finalizing our kitchen layout this weekend as well as picking out the tile for the bathrooms so I will take you all along on that road trip. I AM so excited to be able to take you on this adventure with us, and thank you so much for being patient WITH ME! It is going to be crazy, challenging, and exciting for all of us:)
Love you all and have a wonderful weekend,
