I wanted to make sure I shared all of the latest details with you on our third floor. Andy has been working tirelessly up in this space and it is absolutely paying off. A few weeks back I posted a reel of how the third floor is looking and the beams and shiplap are just EEEEK so exciting to look at. It feels so rewarding to see the vision we had come to life and it is really so exciting for all of us:) We had existing 2×6 wood pieces that Andy then cedar built beams around. Sofy gets a special shout out for also helping put these up too.
Now that we are seeing all of the hard work that Andy has put into the space it has been fun for us to go on the third floor and hang out on the weekends. Rory loves to run around this space and turn on all of the lights now that we have everything wired in. I cannot wait to begin decorating. I really want to it to feel open, welcoming, and cozy. With the warm tones in the floor and the beams I know it will all come together. I wanted to include some of the progress photos of the space so you can see where we are.
As of now here is what we have left to do:
- HVAC install (Outsourcing) and one of the more expensive pieces of this project
- Flooring install (Outsourcing)
- Build doors for the storage spaces that were created
- Trim around built in beds
- Baseboard trim
- Painting the walls
- Finish building the beams on the ceiling
Here are the lighting fixtures that were installed by our electrician:

Up next is selecting the flooring. Andy and I are really leaning toward this one from Home Depot. I think against the white shiplap the color of this wood tone will pop so well. With the wall color I have in mind I think this will also work well. Here is an image of what we are thinking:
Initially we thought we would go with something a little darker but given the color of the beams and that we only have one window in this space we kept that in mind. This will flow so well with the beams that Andy built and the rest of the room. It is excellent quality and it is from Home Depot. Here is the exact wide plank link for you to reference: Flooring. It is a little on the pricier side but we know that it will last a long time and that this material is so durable.
HUGEEE shoutout to Andy for doing this project and basically learning/putting it all together as he went along. This was the initial inspiration that I wanted and he literally brought it to life. He really is so handy and loves a challenge.

I can’t wait to see what he gets working on next up here and I will continue to update you all along the way. In the spring we will have the HVAC and flooring installed.
