One of the first ways that I started incorporating baskets into our home was by using them as planter holders for all of the larger plants in our home. I was never a huge fan of the large pots that I saw at the store because I love a neutral so those types of pots were not readily available as often especially in New England. You can get these baskets anywhere really which is the great part about it. Target, Amazon & HomeGoods are my go-to places to find them! They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. They are reasonable and really make any room look so elevated. Here is an example of how I use the baskets in our upstairs hallway and living room.

• Shoes

• Dog toys

• Blankets

Another great way to use woven baskets with handles is for magazines as you can see, I have styled above. They are perfect for those moments when you don’t feel like cleaning up and are having company over but you want to pick up quickly and make everything look put together.

Choose a dominant metal: For example, in our kitchen, we have antique brass as our main metal on all the cabinets and drawers along with stainless steel appliances. The brass and the stainless steel against the navy-blue island really pop. Then, for our light fixtures, we have light wooden tones on the pendants. If you don’t want to mix too many metals than just stick with two. ONE THING TO ALWAYS REMEMBER. Everything does NOT have to be matchy-matchy. Mixing metals on hardware and accents throughout your space adds interest and makes it look so unique.

This same rule applies for all of the rooms in your home. You can blend your favorites in your living room for instance. Combining a brass lamp with black candlesticks, or chrome curtain rods and black light fixtures why not?

Let’s chat some of my favorite metal combinations: I love gold and black hardware together as well as polished nickel and brass. The clean lines and unique look and feel really draw me Think about it if everything in your home matched perfectly it would make the space feel so cold and uninviting.  Play around with mixed metals—don’t think you are making a mistake by mixing some of your favorites together

Last week I mentioned I would post some of my favorite home decor items! One that I have had my eye on that I think is so different, and practical is the blanket ladder shelf. In my house we have sooo many throw blankets lying around, so I thought it would be perfect to add one of the babies to our living room. I created one on my own. I promise they are so simple, and look so cute in any room you desire.

What you will need: Luckily, I found an old wooden ladder in our backyard that we were no longer were using. I took in the ladder, cleaned it off and placed it kitty cornered in the area of the living room I thought it would look best.

Then, figure out how far up the ladder you would like to cut off in order to make it manageable for blankets to be reached and used. I  waited for my fiance to get home from work, I marked off where I wanted the ladder shelf to be cut, and he cut it with our circular table saw. We took off three steps off the ladder.

Next, bring the ladder up to your desired location and BAM you are done my friend.

Literally two steps!!

The end result was great, and I love how it turned out!!! It is so rustic+I feel so Joanna Gaines proud of myself right now. Such an easy DIY project that I promise anyone can do!
